Purrfect cats

TommyMy name is Tommy, or Moodle. After re-homing as a youngster, I was an awkward so and so. I will stand up for myself, and am a strong character, despite my soft purr and quiet manner. Years ago I had a hairy scrape with a fox, and always had run-ins with my various feline neighbours. I hate travelling to the local cattery when they go away, but love the fuss when they return. Warmth (and the sun) is my thing. All in all I've had a great life. Since leaving*, I gather my apprentice (Harry) has taken over. My purr brings a sense of security and calm, and I'm proud to help. I'm on tracks 1, 5, 6 & 7.

*Tommy passed away peacefully on 15th March 2004, and he is missed desperately. This CD is dedicated to him.

Ch'BeeI'm Ch'Bee; you are never alone when I'm around. Friends brought me to Jack & Anne after I had been dumped on their doorstep as a kitten. I suppose having been abandoned makes me very affectionate and use my intelligence to get my own way. I hate voices raised in anger, and I'll nip your face to stop you if it's getting out of hand. My adopted brothers (Tommy and Harry) are wonderful, but if Harry tries to tap me too hard with his paw, a bit of hissing and spitting will see him off. I've got a wonderful loud continuous purr, which I reckon sums up my 'listen to me' personality. Check me out on tracks 1, 3, 5 & 7.

HarryCall me Harry. I was Tommy's apprentice. Five years ago, I'd got fed up with my solitary life as a young cat, so I decided to get myself a loving human family. I watched Anne and Jack walking back home one night, so I followed them, and ran ahead to their step. They let me in. After a couple of days with them, am I glad no-one else claimed me! I'm always up to something I suppose (especially eating). I'll break dance if you sing my name! Tommy got a bit tired of my games (old age), so I'm seeing how far Milo will let me play. I can never catch the local squirrels, and am sure they tease me. My purr is very loud, and you can hear me on tracks 1, 3, 5, 6 & 7.

MiloJack tried to find out the origins of my name (Milo), but I knew he needn't have bothered. My first owners called me after a TV character, and it suits me for some reason. Looking at the picture of Tommy, I can see why they chose me from the cat's home. Can't say I liked it here at first, because I wasn't used to other cats. But even though my voice is not on this CD, I know I've played my part in bringing it all together. When I get really settled in, they'll realise I'm very spiritual. I know they will love me as much as Tommy, because I'm a wonderful cat, and will bring the same calm to their home as he did.

MollyI'm Molly, am 3 years old and Milly's sister. I'm Josh's (Karen and Andy's baby son) cat. I will meow as soon as I come in, which usually gets me a stroke. I won't give up until you do! I greet everybody the same. The best place for me is on the lounge window sill. I like going into neighbour's houses and beds. Once I went for a ride in the car. I love to chew wet hair, and if you're not quick enough, I'll drink water out of your glass. Like some of the others, my purr is loud too, which probably helps me get my own way (which is all the time). Because I'm a bit fussy, I know they didn't get the best of my voice (I'm on track 8), but like all the cats, every one of us counts.

MillyMy name is Milly, Molly's sister. I'm Josh's sister's (Nicola) cat. I follow her outside when she is playing and get on her lap as soon as she sits down. Compared to Molly, I'm a bit timid and quiet. I like to keep close to the family, especially Nicola's bed and the lounge window sill! Being stroked doesn't interest me, so if I lower my back you'll get the message. But if I do come to you, please pay me attention. My soft purr means I'm only on track 8, which I'm glad about, as I'm not a poseur like that Harry.

MerlinI (Merlin) and my sister Igraine came to Joan and Woody 3 years ago as kittens via a friend, who rescued our pregnant mother from a home (she was being mistreated). Me? I'm very friendly, round, and laid back-and you'll love my large almond shaped green eyes. Only the good things in life for me; food and the sunniest spot in the room or garden. I don't like the cold, so in winter I spend most of my time indoors with Joan, who I wish would take more catnaps with me. My deep purr lulls her into a relaxing doze, and you'll hear me on tracks 1 - 6. I'm an old hippy at heart, my motto is "peace and grub."

IgraineI'm Igraine or Iggy the little acrobat, and unlike Merlin am always on the go. I'm much smaller than him and prefer the outdoor life. Most of the time I love exploring, tree climbing or generally dashing around the local gardens. During the summer I will spend the twilight hours on a bungalow roof waiting for the bats to appear. No open door, cupboard or window is left unexplored. As a kitten I managed to fracture my hip, and a human friend gave me Reiki healing, which helped, and I enjoyed. It's an excuse for more attention, especially from visitors, and I'm living proof that healing works. If you are sore I can wrap myself round the painful site, and use my soft and gentle purr to great effect. I'm on track 8.

BelleMy name is Belle, and I'm a large, beautiful tortoiseshell. For 16 years Woody's job has meant that we were constantly moving. When they eventually settled down, I came to them from the Cats Protection League. They don't know my age, but I've been with them for 17 years and I've always done exactly as I want! I come and I go as I please, always (well nearly) returning for food, even though I'm the best hunter in the district. Our puppy, even though I mothered him, groomed and cleaned him, was a great disappointment in the hunting department. I've accepted all the rescued animals Joan and Woody have brought in over the years, and shared their beds when they needed me. My soft throaty purr (tracks 1 & 4) will always make you feel loved. I'm the beautiful old lady of this home, and I'm still not telling you how old I am!

HoppiHopi. Hi, I'm the good looking one who purrs (deeply and loudly) a lot. I came to live with Sandie three years ago as a kitten, after my mum's people couldn't look after me. I was poorly at the time and needed a lot of TLC. Sandie says I am a dog in a cat's body, as I am very protective and possessive of her, like lots of attention, and am good at dribbling with and fetching balls! I'm a big cat and can be a little clumsy. If I'm poorly I like to hide away in the wardrobe with soft jumpers to lie on. I like snuggling up to Sandie, sleeping on her bed (I have my own cushion). When she's out of the house, I get worried, and wait in the window for her return. I'm always waiting at the door when she comes home, and then I lie on the floor with my legs in the air! I think I'm a bit of a mummy's boy. Find me on tracks 1, 3, 4 & 5.

ColinI'm Colin, and I'm the wild one who likes to wander. When younger, apparently I was the only cat allowed in the house by the others, I suspect because TC (Gerry's late brother) felt sorry for me as I had been abandoned as a kitten. I'm not sure of my birthday, but I'm 13 in human years. You can rely on me to come in for breakfast and tea, but I like wandering, even though I can't chase the 'girls' like I used to (I still try). There are also 'new kits on the block' trying to take my territory. So I'm still a good fighter, but am getting fed up of too many scratches and wounds. When Sandie first took me in, I was too nervous to be touched. Over time I've learned to trust and can occasionally be picked up. I still can't work out why people complain when I hug the back of their legs! My soft purr rather gives my true nature away. For my money my tracks are the best (4 and 6).

GerryGerry. I'm the old lady in the family, as I have reached the ripe old age of 18. Sandie rescued my two brothers (Tom and TC) and me when we were kittens. Whilst I suppose I have always been kittenish, I am very determined. Because I'm very quick and good at getting into places, Sandie says I should have been named Houdini. I'm a bit stiff now, and less agile, but fit enough to jump on the kitchen worktops. As I have got older, I'm better at standing up for myself when Hopi tries to bully me. Sandie won't allow bullying, so he tries it when she isn't watching. I'm a very contented cat. I thought I would just record track 4.

SufiI'm the posh cat, Sufi. My purr is very soft, almost like a bird's coo. I was given to Sandie as a kitten five years ago. When it's very dark, you can always see my beautiful big eyes. My favourite game is to wail loudly (so people think something is wrong), to get attention, and then run off to play hide and seek. I like getting into and being carried around in bags and boxes of all shapes and sizes. Sitting at the top of the stairs I can see everything going on, and in the bathroom I make my daily check for spiders (which I do even if I have to sit in water). I love crystals. I can be aloof, walking off in apparent disgust with my nose and tail in the air, looking back of course to check I'm still being watched. Apart from track 8, I provide the indispensable miaows on a few of the tracks.
